The Final is Over!!!

Yeah!!! Class is over until fall.... That's right, I passed the class and am now able to continue to the second semester! I got 87% on the final and overall 90% in the class. (still a B, but still awesome.) Thank you everyone for all the enthusiasm and support. We're very happy. :-)

Here's a picture of Monty helping me study last night for my final.

One More Day!

Just one more day (our Final) then I'll be on summer break. Pretty exciting! We had our second semester instructors come in and talk to us a little about next semester. It's going to be pretty nuts! Next semester is half Med-Surg and half Pediatric/Mother-Baby. I'm excited to do the mother-baby part. I'll have some pictures soon from our last couple days. School starts again on Aug 19 so until then I'm job hunting and working.

Easter

We had a wonderful time this Easter. We went to my mom's house to have an Easter Egg Hunt with Kellie, Bradley, Ian, and Tayler. It was a lot of fun. Seth and Stacy got in a water gun fight with all the kids. It was really fun to watch. We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!

Lunch Break

I'm on my lunch break at Travis right now. I just had a delicious PB & J that Julie crafted for me. I had no milk so I got to experience the feeling of my muscles working as hard as possible to force the peanut butter down my throat.

Everyone here watches FOX News or some soap opera every day, All My Children if I'm not mistaken. I think I could- and should- be a soap opera actor. It doesn't seem hard to do and I think I would enjoy it for the sheer ridiculousness of it. Also, apparently some Somalian pirates are holding an American captain hostage. What year is it? And how many doubloons will it take to set this straight? Really though, I blame Disney. They underestimate the international influence of Johnny Depp. Does anyone remember when that renegade group of lawn groomers went around terrorizing people's hedges, cutting them into interesting and beautiful creatures? You probably don't because Disney had nothing to do with Edward Scissorhands. However, put J Depp and Disney together, add a little time to organize, and you get Somalian pirates. It is now a proven fact.

NG Tube Insertion

Today, after class we practiced inserting a NG Tube (nasogastric) not only used for tube feedings but also used to keep the stomach empty so it doesn't have to work. I did ok, but am not looking forward to doing it on a real person. It is very uncomfortable. Here is a YouTube video on NG Tube insertion:

A Real Patient!

Today at the NorthBay Hospital I was able to give 2 IM injections in the deltoids (one in each arm). It was the flu shot and a pneumonia vaccine. It was pretty exciting! My patient didn't seem to mind too much either. This was my first injection on a real live patient!
